Visit the first electric low-floor double-decker bus of Kowloon Motor Bus
Kowloon Motor Bus’s first electric low-floor double-decker bus will commence operation tomorrow (30 July 2023) on route 213M (Circular route from On Tai to Lam Tin Station), with similar models set to appear on different routes.
General Secretary William Chan Hei Lung visited the KMB depot this afternoon in response to an invitation to inspect this electric bus. The bus features a design with dual wheelchair spaces, and the handrails next to the wheelchair spaces have been optimised to ensure the safety of wheelchair users while the vehicle is in motion. The functionality of the lowered floor is more ideal than previous models, making wheelchair boarding and alighting more convenient.
As this bus is electric-powered, space is required at the rear of the vehicle for battery placement, resulting in a reduction in seat numbers and affecting the width of priority seats. We have promptly provided feedback to the KMB team in hopes of improvements.
Furthermore, we continue to follow up on two issues raised during our meeting with the Transport Department, including support from frontline captains for passengers with mobility challenges and the stability of in-vehicle audio announcements. We will take this opportunity to once again relay feedback to the KMB team, hoping for more considerate service from frontline captains, especially for elderly passengers or individuals with mobility challenges who may not be wheelchair users, by proactively lowering the floor for their boarding and alighting. Additionally, we hope that KMB can enhance the efficiency and stability of audio announcements to improve accessibility services.
