{"id":5464,"date":"2023-06-21T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-06-21T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uniaccess.rahk.org.hk\/uncategorized\/rahk-representatives-met-with-g19-legislative-council-members\/"},"modified":"2025-06-08T23:55:42","modified_gmt":"2025-06-08T15:55:42","slug":"rahk-representatives-met-with-g19-legislative-council-members","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uniaccess.rahk.org.hk\/en\/policy-advocacy-on-universal-design\/rahk-representatives-met-with-g19-legislative-council-members\/","title":{"rendered":"RAHK representatives met with G19 Legislative Council Members"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"5464\" class=\"elementor elementor-5464 elementor-2684\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b05bcc8 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"b05bcc8\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5e5f2fe elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5e5f2fe\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Vice-Chairperson Wong Ka Ling, Member Joseph Kwan Kwok Lok, General Secretary William Chan Hei Lung, and Senior Project Officer Wilson Lau Kwok Lam, met with G19 Legislative Council (LegCo) Members, including Members Tony Tse Wai Chuen, Chan Pui Leung, and Wendy Hong Wen, on 21 June 2023, to discuss accessibility issues in Hong Kong.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The following opinions were presented:<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Advocating for the concept of &#8220;universal design&#8221; rather than &#8220;accessibility&#8221;: According to the &#8220;Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities&#8221;, universal design refers to designing products, environments, programs, and services in a way that can be used by all individuals without the need for adjustments or special designs.<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Urban planning and building design should incorporate &#8220;universal design&#8221; principles for universal usability.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Review the &#8220;Design Manual &#8211; Barrier Free Access&#8221; comprehensively as soon as possible.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Issues of insufficient accessible taxis, refusal of service, and high reservation fees.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Focus on accessibility in major construction projects such as the Northern Metropolis, Lantau Tomorrow, and hospital reconstructions.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Large-scale projects should undergo early and continuous consultations on accessibility design.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br>During the meeting, there was a significant exchange of views on accessibility issues in Hong Kong. The atmosphere was positive, and we look forward to further opportunities to engage with G19 LegCo Members.
