The Architectural Services Department and Leisure and Cultural Services Department organised the workshop on December 21, 2022, to introduce the design concepts and progress of the project, aiming to communicate and exchange views with stakeholders on topics such as conceptual design and expectations for the activity centre.
LCSD plans to transform the Former Whitfield Barracks, Block 58 in Kowloon Park into the Centre for the Promotion of Chinese History and Culture, with an additional new wing nearby.
Project Officer Wilson Lau Kwok Lam attended the workshop and expressed concerns about the Centre for the Promotion of Chinese History and Culture:
- Ensuring accessibility for people with disabilities, such as improving the entrance on Haiphong Road and installing elevators.
- Ensuring sufficient space for rehabilitation buses to drop off and pick up passengers at the vehicle disembarkation area.
- Creating replicas of exhibits for visually impaired individuals to touch.
- Utilising RFID technology to make exhibit information easily accessible for visually impaired individuals.
- Considering the perspective of wheelchair users when placing exhibits.
