RAHK has always promoted community accessibility and paid attention to the daily travel situations of individuals with disabilities. Therefore, we previously sent a letter to Mr. Tony Yau Kwok Ting, Director of Highways, inviting Highways Department representatives to engage in discussions with us on various issues.
Under the careful consideration and arrangement of Director Yau, on 7 November 2024, we met with Mr. Franky Pong Fung Kei, Kowloon District Chief Engineer of the Highways Department, and six senior engineers responsible for different departments, including District Engineering, Universal Accessibility (UA) Projects, Research and Development, etc., at the Chan Fuk Sing Resource Centre to discuss optimising current road environment facilities to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities and to express our opinions to the Highways Department.
The meeting covered topics such as:
- Installation and construction issues of Highways Department-managed facilities
- Design of Universal Accessibility Projects facilities
- Road maintenance status
- Road design
- Schedule for the dissemination of new drain covers
- Consultation mechanism for future facilities or new projects
Proper road environment facilities are crucial for the safe and accessible travel of individuals with disabilities ⭐. We appreciate Director Yau and all the engineers from the Highways Department for taking the time out of their busy schedules to engage with us and actively address the travel needs of individuals with disabilities. We will maintain close contact with the Highways Department 🤝 and continue to monitor road environments 🛣️, striving to create an accessible community.
